Little Gene had been helping us setup our new trampoline last night when it was time for him to head home. Pax was leaving to give him a ride when Vi completely lost it. She has been a real daddy’s girl ever since he started school. She has a complete happy-meltdown every time he gets home from his long hours at work and school. It’s really sweet. We can tell she really misses him. So, last night when he looked like he was going to leave without her, she stood at the gate wearing only her diaper, screaming. He reached over the gate and let me know he would take her with him.
A little while later he called me from Walmart asking if there were any groceries I needed him to get while he was there. It didn’t even cross my mind that Vi had been practically naked when they left together.
About an hour later, Parley and I were finishing up with the trampoline in the backyard when Vi came waltzing through the gate dressed like this:
I practically fell over. Pax had bought her a whole outfit complete with socks, shoes, and a groovy new pack of headbands. (Which, by the way, is amazing, because prior to this, Vi would NEVER let me put headbands on her. But for daddy? Anything goes.) He even bought a little pack of baby wipes so he could clean the gravy from dinner off her face. I was just dying. She was so proud and so was Pax. I couldn’t stop looking at her because I was so surprised. Pax told me about the lady at Walmart who had been folding the kids’ clothes. She kindly helped him figure out what size Vi needed. He said he tried several different options for her shorts/skirt and eventually Vi got pretty tired of it all. The whole scenario is pretty darn cute and I realized that my kids need to have regular “dates with daddy”.
